Switching to an Instagram Business account
Before you can connect Instagram to rAIceptionist, your profile must be Business or Creator. Steps from Personal to Business in 2 minutes.
Why a Business account is required
The Instagram Login API (which we use) only works with Business or Creator accounts. Personal accounts don't have access to the Messaging API — Meta doesn't allow automated replies from personal profiles. The switch is free and doesn't change how your profile looks to followers.
1. Open Settings in the Instagram app
Open Instagram on your phone. Go to your profile (bottom-right), tap the three-line menu top-right, then "Settings and privacy".
2. Find "Account type and tools"
Scroll down to the "For professionals" section. Tap "Account type and tools" → "Switch to professional account".
3. Pick a category and Business type
Instagram asks for a category (e.g. "Beauty, Cosmetic & Personal Care" for a salon). Then choose "Business" (not Creator) — Business gives full DM API access. Done — your profile is now Business.
Tip: No Facebook Page needed. The old method (Facebook Login for Business) required an FB Page — the new Instagram Login API works without one.
4. Connect to rAIceptionist
Now you can go to Dashboard → Channels → Instagram → "Connect Instagram". We redirect you to instagram.com to authorize, then you come back with an active connection. Detailed steps in "Connecting Instagram" next.
